Anna Jurt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Meeks Mortuary & Crematory - Washington Street Chapel on Mar. 5, 2026.
Muncie - Anna Louise Jurt passed away peacefully on March 05 at her home at Westminster Village. She was born on December 12, 1923 on the family farm in Washington Township, Delaware County, Gaston, Indiana to Oscar and Elsie Jones.

Anna attended school in Gaston and graduated from Gaston High School in 1941. She was also a graduate of Indiana Business College in Muncie. Anna was an office clerk at Franks Foundry.

In 1951 she went to work at Warner Gear as a clerk in the cost department, retiring in 1981.

Anna has been a member of High Street United Methodist Church since 1954. As a devoted Christian, Anna loved serving God and her community. Volunteering was a big part of her life.

She volunteered at Ball State WIPB, Emens Auditorium, Minnetrista, Muncie Eye Center, Ball Hospital, Ball Hospital Gift Shop, American Health Network and Muncie Public Library reading to the blind and delivering books to shut-ins. Anna also delivered flowers from High Street UMC to shut-ins. When she delivered an Easter Lily to a lady named Grace Snell, Anna met the love of her life, Paul F. Jurt, Grace's son.

Paul and Anna were married on September 20, 1969. They enjoyed their life together, traveling all over the United States and Europe. They were active bowlers and golfers.

Anna was a member of Women of the Moose, holding many offices. She was also a 50-year plus member of Eastern Star.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Paul F. Jurt, parents Oscar and Elsie Jones, mother-in-law Grace Snell, brother John Winford Jones, nephew-in-law Steve Sharkey.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Jane Sharkey, Joy King (Ron), John D. Jones (Wendy), Steve Jones (Keilla), and Paul Jones; nine great-nieces, nine great-nephews; seven great-great nieces and twelve great-great nephews.

Anna enjoyed spending the holidays at the home of Voyne and Elaine Smith. She truly loved watching all of the little ones play. She also enjoyed the ballgames on tv. She loved her weekly shopping trips to Walmart for sweet snacks and a lunch of her favorite meals of potato soup or beef and noodles.

Special thanks to her family at Westminster Village for the wonderful care she received. Also, thanks to her Heart to Heart Hospice team for giving such comfort in her last days.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Easten Star Services starting promptly at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mathews Cemetery, Matthews.
