Anna Kresh Obituary

Anna R. Kresh, 93, of Butler, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, at home with family.
Anna was born June 19, 1932, in Danielsville, Pa., the youngest daughter of Austrian immigrants, the late Ignatz W. and Mary (Schuch) Tanczos.
Anna graduated from Northampton High School in 1949. She was employed by Mack Trucks, where she met Rudy Kresh. At first, she resisted his advances because she was engaged to someone else, but he persisted and won her heart. They were married July 17, 1954, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bath, Pa. Together, they raised five children, beginning in Bethlehem, Pa. Rudy's work took them to Butler, then to Cornwells Heights, Pa., and finally back to Butler in 1969.
As the children grew, Anna was always there to support their various activities, including school, scouting, sports, 4-H, Butler County Saddle Club and CYO. She also taught CCD at St. Andrew Catholic Church (now part of All Saints Parish). Once the children were older, she taught herself to program computers while recovering from hip replacement surgery, and she worked for Computer Task Group, where she developed programs for Armco Steel and Duco Ceramics, among others.
She enjoyed family, travel, pinochle and puzzles, and was a regular fan at school and sporting events of her children, grandchildren or other family members. She traveled to Austria to research her family roots and was an active member and webmaster for the Austrian-American Cultural Society of Pittsburgh.
Anna is survived by her children, David (Cathi) Kresh, of Washington, Pa., Irene (Jack) Rosati, of McDonald, Pa., Daniel (Kim) Kresh, of Butler, and Teresa (Roger) McDowell, of Butler; grandchildren, Jared (Kelsey) Hoffman, James (Nicki) Rosati, Christina (Brian) McElhinny, Carolyn (Greg) Timko, Megan (Nick) Fejka, Patrick Kresh, Carrie (Tom) Porr and Eric (Jenya) Hansen; 10 great-grandchildren, with another on the way; and sister, Emma Farkas, of Northampton, Pa.
She was preceded in death by Rudy Kresh, her husband of 67 years; son, Leonard Kresh; grandson, Jacob Kresh; and brothers, Ignatius, Joseph, Frank, Edward and Robert Tanczos.
KRESH - Family and friends of Anna R. Kresh, who died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at All Saints Parish, Saint Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Extension, Butler, with Father Kevin Fazio officiating. Everyone is kindly asked to meet at the church Friday.
Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Butler Chapter, 146 N. Monroe St., Butler, PA 16001.

Not sure what to say?

My condolences to the children of Anna Kresh. My husband and I both worked for your parents; we were the landscapers they called in to beautify their beautiful home. Both of your parents were lovely, hard working people. I lost my husband 2 years ago and we both would say they will be greatly missed. Georgia Vogel

Such a sad occasion this is and I am almost at a loss for words. She was always such a nice person, a wonderful renaissance lady, a lady for all seasons. She and her husband Rudy were people I genuinely looked up to for a multitude of reasons. She always supported good causes including her Rudy's activities in the Knights of Columbus. Rudy was always an avid supporter of the Knights in their Bishop's Project to help raise money to assist the mentally and physically challenged kids and adults, especially at the Saint Anthony's School programs and for the McGuire Memorial Home. On several occasions during the hot summer months, the Knights, including Rudy while deep into his 80's, would station ourselves at the Butler Walmart doors taking donations and passing Tootsie Rolls to kids, with their parents permission of course. At the end of the days activity, the Kresh's always invited the money counters (me and my posse) to their home to do the counting (what else). With that task out of the way, Anna always fed her posse (us), and not just snacks and finger food either. In short, Anna treated us (and everybody) like family. And on top of all that, she was a computer whiz!
The world is a better place for her having lived in it. In the years since Rudy died, I passed up opportunities to visit with Anna always figuring this time or that wasn't the right time and there would always be plenty of time. Please kick me if you see me.
