Anna (Ann) Marini, a beacon of light, hope, faith, and love passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Ann was born on January 23, 1934, in the mountaintop village of San Benedetto in Perillis, L'Aquila Italy, to Guiseppe and Matilde (Conti) Patrizio.
Ann immigrated to Brooklyn, New York USA, via Manchester, England. Ann spent a year in England working as part of a refugee program for young women, after World War II. In 1953, her maternal uncle sponsored her to come to the United States, fulfilling a lifelong dream, to become an American citizen. She arrived in the United States on February 22, 1953, and soon after met the love of her life, John (Johnnie), a ''good ole boy'' from Brooklyn. They married in a civil ceremony on August 15, 1953, and Ann returned to Italy so Johnnie could ''call for'' her as he processed the paperwork so could return to Brooklyn.
Ann and Johnnie married in religious ceremony on August 7, 1954, in St. Brendan's Roman Catholic Church (Brooklyn) with Maria Marini as maid of honor and Anthony Marini as Best Man.
While fulfilling the ''American Dream,'' by having a strong work ethic, a deep dedication to the USA, Ann became a citizen and learned the American Way immediately. Ann worked as a meat wrapper (Ufcw Local 342) in several Staten Island Supermarkets. She met many customers so wherever she went she knew someone. Often referred to ''the little Italian Lady, with the accent and the nice smile.''
Ann and Johnnie moved from Brooklyn to Eltingville in November 1964. It was there in an idyllic town, they raised their three children, Patricia Ann Concordia married to Severino (Sev), John a devoted partner to Dora Colella, and Donna DeSantis married to Vincent (Vinnie). Ann and Johnnie were blessed with eight grandchildren, who proudly inherited their Nana's qualities of love, perseverance, strength, and faith. Valentina Vinci (Anthony), Julia Maresca (Steve), Steven Daniel Concordia, John Matthew Marini (Kaitlyn), Stephanie-Anne DeSantis (Anthony Spina), Christina DeSantis (Gerard Lockwood), Laura Marini (Matt), and Vincent DeSantis (Chimy).
Johnnie passed in 2012, leaving void that was soon filled with Ann's and Johnnie six great grandchildren, Anthony John (AJ) Vinci, Adriana Rose Vinci, Steven John Maresca, Dominic Salvatore Maresca, Vincent (Chenzo) Omar DeSantis, and Antonia Maria Spina.
Ann leaves a legacy behind. Coming very humble beginnings she shared with her siblings, Maria Zaino (deceased, 1971, Antonio deceased 2004), Giacomo (Carmela deceased 2010), Davide (deceased, 2024 (Mariana) and Benedetto (Giovanna). Ann loved her family with the fullness of her heart. She cherished her nieces and nephews and their families, (Barney, Joseph, Terrance, and Mario, Roberto and Pablo (2010) Patrizio, Joseph, Betilde, and Gerardo Patrizio, Anthony Patrizio and Marilyn Cipriano Patrizio and their families). The Marini nephews and nieces for whom she prayed for every day. She was thankful for Mark and his wife, Kathy for sharing holidays with her, representing ''The Marini's.'' Ann adored her many, many friends she acquired over the years living in Staten Island, Jackson, New Jersey, and Lighthouse Point, Florida.
Ann touched every life she encountered offering free and unsolicited advice. Work hard, play hard, live the American Dream. Be a true patriot and vote. Its an important right as an American citizen. Being an American Citizen was paramount in Ann's life. She never missed the right to vote as soon as she acquired it. Ann was a proud and true citizen of the United States of America, the proud wife and grandmother of Navy veterans, she believed anything could happen in the US, if you put your mind and soul to it.
As the family of Ann Marini bids her farewell, we celebrate her life in a testimony to her and her accomplishments she was the epitome of the American Dream come true.
