Anna Mae Markey, age 96, peacefully departed this life on Monday, February 9, 2026. A woman of grace and family devotion, she was the beloved wife of Robert J. "Bob" Markey for 63 wonderful years.

Born in Memphis, Anna Mae spent her early years in New Orleans. As a dedicated Navy wife, she embraced the journey of military life, accompanying Bob on deployments to Okinawa, Japan, Hawaii, and California. The couple eventually returned to the New Orleans area, where she made River Ridge her home for 68 years.

Anna Mae loved her community; she was a long-time parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Church. In her later years, she was a member of the JCOA Harahan Senior Center, where she enjoyed field trips and games of cards, bingo, and bunco with friends.

Anna Mae was an avid, passionate golfer and a familiar face on the links. She held memberships in the Bayou St. John Ladies Golf Association and Colonial Golf & Country Club. She also enjoyed gardening as a member of the Colonial Garden Club.

Anna Mae is survived by her sons, Jim Markey (Jannie) and Bruce Markey (Sheila); five grandchildren, Shannon Heltz, Tiffany Markey Truxillo, Bruce Markey, Jr., Natalie Cannata, and Ariel H. O'Hern; and nine great-grandchildren, Stephen, Alexandra, Zachary, Madelyn, Carmela, Kinsley, Dominick, Dean, and Santo. She also leaves behind loving nieces, Lynn M. Accardo, Kathy M. Reiss, Marie Adams, and many other nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, Ethel T. and Edwin Z. Adams; her daughter, Carrie Markey Vorenkamp; son-in-law, Carl.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Friday, February 20, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM. The burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
