Anna Person Martin
Anna Person Martin passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, at the age of 95. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Pam Dodson (Dickie) and Diane Wood (Allan), her grandson, Daniel Wood and his fiancée Jenna D'Amato, several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends, including two special buddies, Verna Pistey and Alice Kuzma. She was predeceased by her husband, William Martin, her two sisters, Astrid Fagan and Elsa Diehl, her son-in-law, Markus Spivak, and a special friend, George Dirgo.
Ann (as she preferred to be known) was born on February 14, 1930, to Carl and Theresa Person. She loved being a "Valentine baby". She was raised in Stratford and was a proud graduate of Stratford High, class of '49 (the "49ers"). She was known to sing the school's alma mater whenever passing by the school, much to the amusement of her daughters.
In 1951, she married the love of her life, Bill Martin, and Pam came along in 1953. The three moved to Meadowbrook Drive in Shelton in 1957, and Diane completed the family in 1961. Once they were empty nesters, Ann and Bill moved to Aspetuck Village in Shelton.
Ann considered herself a "professional volunteer". If it needed doing, Ann was always there to do it. Sunday School teacher, room mother, Girl Scout leader, '49ers reunion committee, Molinaro Music School parent group … she loved it all. She and Bill started volunteering at Bridgeport Hospital in 1976 and Ann was there faithfully every week until the pandemic put an end to that opportunity in 2020. In recent years, she arranged many parties and luncheons for the Sikorsky Friendship Club.
Ann loved her Swedish heritage, and she and Bill traveled to Sweden many times. They greatly enjoyed traveling, especially after Bill's retirement. Their daughters would joke that it was hard to keep track of them. They especially enjoyed winter breaks in sunny Florida or Aruba.
Ann was an avid reader, and an excellent bowler (with many trophies to prove it!). She loved her weekly game with her special pinochle ladies.
Ann loved life and above all her precious family and friends. In 2020, she moved in with Diane and Allan, and Pam kept in touch with a daily 9am phone call. Her girls, sons-in-law and her only grandson were the focus of her life, and they will all miss her dearly.
"Let God hug you each day".
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Sterling House (2283 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615) or the Kennedy Collective (2440 Reservoir Avenue, Trumbull, CT 06611) would be most appreciated.
A visitation will take place on Monday March 24, 2025, form 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Larson Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield, CT 06824. A church service will be held on Tuesday, March 25th, 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 406 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
