Anna May Wheeler Gillett May 27, 1931 - October 11, 2021 In Memory of Anna May Wheeler Gillett

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anna May Wheeler Gillett on October 11, 2021, in Nashua NH at age 90. Anna May lived a long and full life and was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend to many.

Anna May was born on May 27, 1931, in Washington, DC to Clarice Livingstone Wheeler and William Joseph Wheeler. She grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, and attended Mary Washington College majoring in English. After college, Anna May worked as a social worker and soon met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Baker Gillett, an engineer from VA Tech.

Married in Norfolk, VA on January 21, 1956, Anna May and Dick raised 3 children together in Winston-Salem, NC and Hudson, Ohio. Dick passed in 2006, a few months after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Anna May was a long-time member of the Moravian Church (most recently at Home Moravian). She volunteered throughout her life at Meals on Wheels, North Carolina Sorosis, Winston-Salem Symphony, and the Moravian Church. Anna May enjoyed hosting dinner parties was known for her infectious laugh, high-energy manner, and thoughtfulness.

Anna May is survived by her three children, Richard B Gillett Jr (wife, Sharon) of Westford MA, William Gillett (wife, Lyn-Genet) of Dobbs Ferry NY, Elizabeth Gillett (s/o Tom Klinkowstein) of NYC, four grandchildren, Michael Gillett, David Gillett, Gabriella Gillett, Gemma Klinkowstein, and nieces, Katie Wheeler and Susan Wheeler.

A private ceremony for immediate family will be held at Salem Congregation, God's Acre in Winston-Salem on Friday, June 23, 2023. Contributions can be made to the Moravian Music Foundation (moravianmusic.org).
