It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Maria Muniz, who entered eternal rest on February 11, 2026, at the age of 68, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose love and strength will forever be remembered.
Anna was born on August 16, 1957, in Kingsville, Texas, to Anita Bazan Muniz and Merced “Shorty” Muniz, who both preceded her in death. She was the second oldest of her siblings: Jose Luis Muniz, Severo “Jimmy” Muniz, Miguel Antonio Muniz, Esther M. Dunlap, and Petra M. Gaither.
Anna was known for her loving and forgiving heart, her strength, and her vibrant personality. She was outgoing, funny, and loved music—especially Motown and oldies. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always bringing laughter and light to those around her.
A hardworking and talented woman, Anna owned the Christian bookstore Wings of His Spirit and later worked with Home Interiors and Gifts. Above all, she was a devoted stay-at-home mother. In 1997, she served as a team mom for Pop Warner football, where her dedication helped establish the first cheerleading squad. She handcrafted and sewed the Broncos' uniforms, creating a lasting legacy as the program grew through the years.
Anna was incredibly creative—crafting, sewing, baking, and was affectionately known as the “Tamale Queen,” as her tamales were simply the best.
She had a deep love for the Lord and found joy in worship, often singing alongside her ex-husband and dear friend, Jose Martin Vela, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children: Issac Muniz of Louisville, KY; Lisa Cortez, JoAnna Muniz, JoLinda (David Jr.) Calderon, Fabian Lerma, and Lamar Lerma, all of Kingsville, TX; Iris Herrera of Annaville, TX; Yvette (Chris) Regalado of Alice, TX; and Regina (Rene) Baez of Bishop, TX. She was a cherished grandmother to 32 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous family members, friends, and her beloved godchildren, Juan Miguel Flores and Roxanne Reyes
A visitation will take place at 9:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of Anna’s life starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Kingsway Family Church in Kingsville, Texas. The family invites loved ones to join them the following morning on February 24, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary for a memorial gathering beginning at 9:00 a.m., with a memorial service at 10:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
Anna’s love, laughter, faith, and creativity will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
