Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Home - Navarre Chapel on Jan. 21, 2026.
Anna Lee Nagy, of
Mary Esther, FL, was called home by Jesus on January 19, 2026.
She was born on February 6, 1936, in
Charleston, WV, to Vincent Mays and Virginia Riddle. Anna grew up in
Wheeling, WV, and later built a life in Florida defined by compassion, service, and unwavering kindness.
Anna Lee, who never met a stranger, will be remembered for her generosity and the gentle way she cared for others. While working at Shady Rest Nursing Home in Ft. Myers, FL, she often spent her days off with the patients, giving haircuts, offering shaves, or sharing homemade baked goods. Her heart for people was evident in every act of service.
After joining the Mary Esther Church of God, Anna Lee became deeply devoted to supporting the church's growth, especially through fundraising for the building committee. Her giving spirit extended beyond people as well-she took a personal interest in the local stray cats, having them spayed or neutered and continuing to care for them with love and dedication. Anna Lee helped anyone she believed was in need, offering compassion without hesitation.
Anna Lee is survived by her husband, Richard A. Nagy, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage; her son, Edward Gongola of Bonita Springs, FL; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Young of Ft. Myers, FL; and her two daughters, Patricia Nagy (Jean) of Destin, FL, and Robin Poling (Tom) of
Navarre, FL. She is also survived by five granddaughters-Adi, Tomi, Mari, and Loli Poling of
Navarre, FL, as well as Marell Raiola (Nick) of Stuart, FL. She leaves behind one great-grandson, Reece Raiola; though she met him only once, she cherished every photo and video she received of him. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Thurston of Naples, FL; a sister, Charlotte Thurston of Dunbar, WV; and a cousin, William Kapp of Lakeland, FL.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Gongola; her mother, Virginia (Riddle) Thurston; her father, Vincent Mays; and her brothers, Rodney Mays and Arthur Litton Thurston.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Mary Esther Church of God, 140 Green Drive, Mary Esther, Florida 32569, with visitation from 12:30–2:00 p.m. and the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
