WEAVERVILLE – Anna G. Ramsey, age 79, of Weaverville passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at her home with her daughter by her side. Anna was born on April 18, 1946, in Madison County to the late John and Martha Bailey Ramsey.
Anna was a former nurse; she worked for the U. S. Government in Panama. Later she went to paramedic school while living in Denver, Colorado. After returning home, she worked in loss prevention at the Asheville Mall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her partner of over 40 years, James Gordon “Jim” VanStory who passed away in 2020; a sister, who died in 2012 Irene “Bean” Howell; and brothers, Urias, Jeter, Ernest, Kenneth and Wade Ramsey.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Ann Washabaugh; a sister, Pauline Edwards; cousin, Brenda Garrison and her daughters, Dana and Connie; cousin, Angie Rice and husband, Joe; cousin, Jeff Bailey and wife, Debbie and their children, Ashley and Adam; niece, Margie Howell; nephew, Allen Howell and his daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” and her children, Dustin and Ashton; friend, Jewel Jackson and husband, George and their grandsons, Kaleb “Honeybun” Bucklew and Eric Hall; friend, Jan Lawrence and her yorkie, Molly Brown; friend, Jerry Isreal and wife, Willie; friend, Mike and Vivian Bateman; cousin, Glenda Sawyer and her friend, Catherine; friend, Carol Cooper and her son, Dusty; friend, Teresa Burnette from La-Tan and her son, Hunter; cousin, Tom Bailey and wife, Larenda; Edward VanStory and his wife, Leta “Sister”; numerous nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; a special young lady that Anna always held in her heart, Ava; and all her close friends on Union Chapel Road as well as extended friends and family that Anna knew throughout the years; her friend and favorite postal driver, Kim Murray and Karen on Union Chapel Road who also works at the postal service.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Louis Grant and friend, Jan Lawrence officiating. Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 23 at Middle Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, September 22, at West Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to an organization of your choice in memory of Anna. The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice Staff for all their kindness and help, especially her social worker, Kelly and nurse, Heather. Dr. Robert Conklin, her special doctor, for his kindness, comfort of reassurance when she was scared to death. All of her “special friends” at the local banks, her pastor and friend, Dr. Louis Grant throughout the journey, who she always told “God bless you and take care of those knees!” She always thought of and prayed for him as he called to pray for her.
