WEAVERVILLE – William “Dave” Ball, age 77, of Weaverville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was the son of the late Gladson Edward and Pauline Wallen Ball.
Dave was born on September 6, 1948, in Buncombe County, where he lived most of his life. He was a 1966 North Buncombe High School graduate and then joined the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War. After honorably serving his country, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Houston. His proud career in engineering spanned many decades and industries. He was the co-owner of the business, Avery’s Creek Machine, and the owner/operator of Flat Creek Controls. Dave was a part of Madison County Beekeepers and enjoyed working with his twin brother, Dale, in their bees. Dave enjoyed growing cane and making molasses with his family. He also enjoyed growing and giving from his garden. His dry humor brought smiles in the most unexpected moments and will not be forgotten. Dave was a Deacon and beloved member for many decades at Morgan Hill Baptist Church, where he was affectionately known as “Super Dave” and cared for the cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Judy Dickens Ball; daughters, Andrea Ferguson (Phillip), and Stacie Ball (Kory); son, Eric Ball (Sarah); siblings, Carroll Ball (Darlene), Joyce Schmarr, Kaye Munoz, and twin brother, Dale Ball (Diana); grandchildren, Colbie, Davis, Bryce, and Brooklynn who lovingly called him Poppy; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Dave’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Morgan Hill Baptist Church, 594 Barnardsville Hwy, Weaverville, with Rev. Kevin Garner and Rev. Will Edmonds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
