Robert Sheppard, age 88, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy that reflects his passion for family, community, and his proud patriotism.
Born on May 15, 1937, in the Higgins Community of Yancey County to the late Rose Ann Webb Sheppard and Brones Sheppard; he moved to Weaverville when he was three years old. Bob dedicated his life to the values he held dear, serving as a Veteran of the US Army.
Prior to graduating from North Buncombe High School in 1956, Bob was a curb hop at Stoney Knob drive-in restaurant. In 1964 he founded Asheville Pool & Gunite as owner/operator for 30 years. Upon retirement, Bob & Priscilla enjoyed more than 30 years of RVing, visiting all 50 states while on permanent vacation. Bob had a passion for collecting and showing vintage cars. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, and watching races at the Asheville Speedway. Bob was a member of the Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club and Street-tiques of Asheville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Emery Lewis Sheppard.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Priscilla Ward Sheppard; sons, Alan and wife Tonia, Barry and wife Kathryn and Chris and wife Teresa; and daughter, Kelly Farmer and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Christian, Scarlett, Tanner, and Samantha; along with great grandchildren, Noah, Willow and Harvey.
Mr. Sheppard’s funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, December 4, 2025, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Chip Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville.
