Anne Aldredge Morton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home - Preston Road on Nov. 1, 2025.
In Memory of Anne Kathryn Aldredge Morton (Funderburk), PhD
My lovely and loving wife of nineteen years passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025
She was at home "trying to live", as she put it to me on Monday. She fought a long and bitter battle against Asthma and colon cancer. It took both diseases to bring her down, and it took them almost 83 years to succeed. Anne fought till her last struggling breath, and anyone who knew her knew she would never give up in a fight. As her husband, I learned to "give in" quite a lot.
Anne was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Truman Henry Aldredge; her mother, Eva Hickerson Aldredge Henley; and Sister Peggy Jannine Aldredge Clanton, and is survived by her son, David Charles Herring and wife Kelly Herring; and sister, DeAnne Herring; Brother-in-Law, David Clanton; Nephews Chad and Brett Clanton; and their children and great granddaughter.
Anne was known far and wide by politically involved people, including State Legislators, for her Progressive Political Views and her attention to activities undertaken by the Texas State Legislature. She was, for many years, President of the Park Cities Central Dallas Democrats, where she hosted debates between and among City Council and Mayoral Races and State Legislature Candidates.
Anne was a Licensed Psychologist employed by Texas Scottish Rite (Children's) Hospital for 25 years as Head of the Psychology Department. She was an active member of the Texas Psychology Association where she received recognition and awards for leading successful fund-raising campaigns for their Political Action Committee's endeavors to influence the State Legislature in legislative matters. In that capacity, Anne met regularly with numerous State Senators and Representatives.
Anne was an accomplished student and academic, having earned a B.S. at LSU; master's at SMU, and Doctorate at NTU. She was admired for her honesty, integrity, intelligence, good humor, and many other attributes. I never heard her say a bad word about anyone, yet she was intolerant of those who abuse other people or animals.
To Anne, social justice matters. Anne Kathryn Aldredge (her maiden name) grew up as a little girl questioning everything. All in all, she was a delightful companion and friend to me. She was very close to her sister up until her passing, and it affected her greatly. No one ever had a bigger heart nor stronger will than Anne Aldredge, and her absence will be felt by many.

I´m heartbroken to hear of Anne´s passing. She was a friend and mentor to me for 37 years. We met when she was a supervisor in my first job as a clinician, in Denton, TX. There was an immediate connection- we were both clinicians driven to bring more equity and social awareness into our work & workplace. Anne was a soft-spoken warrior. Her observations and her words as my mentor in 1988-1990 stay with me, to this day. Remarkably we stayed friends over the decades. She encouraged me to pursue my doctorate, and she was always the friend I would call when I hit roadblocks or had good news to share. We celebrated or mourned every election since that first year in Denton. We would check in with each other every year to meet up at the Texas Psychological Association convention. She´s been my friend through every stage of my professional life, for almost 40 years. Anne´s fire for equality and justice, her deep sense of humor, and her love and support will remain a part of me forever.

I have become friends with Anne over the past two years, as we were neighbors. It was always nice to interact as she and her husband walked their beloved cats each afternoon, Rumpie and Itty Bitty. They brought her a lot of joy, and we all shared amusement in their antics.

She was always soft spoken and thoughtful and I will miss our talks, as she was a nice person and a great neighbor.

Anne was a free thinker. She always recognized when things didn´t add up. She supported young people and the next generation of leaders. May her memory be a blessing.
