Born in Paterson, Anne was a lifelong resident of Hawthorne until she recently moved to Wayne. A parishioner of St. Anthony's R.C. Church in Hawthorne, Anne had retired as a social studies teacher from Christopher Columbus Middle School in Clifton. Throughout her life, Anne enjoyed traveling, taking trips to the Jersey shore, watching Jeopardy, attending Broadway shows, and loved reading. She also enjoyed spending time with her dear grandchildren.
Anne was the beloved mother of Jennifer Godfrey and her husband Brent of Oakland, Julie Lorman of Hawthorne, and Adam Lorman and his wife Sage of Cranford. Loving grandmother of Meredith Godfrey, Brendan Godfrey, Colin Godrey, and Adam Lorman. Sister-in-law of June Backes. Dear childhood friend of Barbara VanDenBerg. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Robert E. Backes (2001).
Funeral will depart at 9:00am on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from the Browning-Forshay funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, for a 9:30am funeral mass at St. Anthony's R.C. Church in Hawthorne. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa. Friends may visit with the family at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly ask that memorial donation be made to a charity of one's choice.
