Anne Elizabeth Cattern, a cherished mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, in Roseville, CA.
Born in 1935 to Thomas and Julia Carlin (née Morahan) in Chicago, IL, Anne's vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of her family, friends, and coworkers during her remarkable 90 years.
A devout Catholic, Anne's faith was a cornerstone of her life.
She found joy in expressing her creativity through her art, contributing her illustrative talents to St. Peter's, Skokie events and creating artwork for family and neighbors. Her love for painting, calligraphy, knitting, and illustration was evident in the beauty she brought to life.
Anne spent decades working in an administrative role for the Chicago public schools. A highlight of her work life was when her sister MaryKay joined the office and when she, Kathleen, Lori, and Mr. Butterfield all retired together.
Beloved wife of the late William Cattern, together, they shared a life of love and companionship, happily raising children, and spending summers at the cottage in Lake Ripley with family, playing Nerts, drinking brandy Old Fashioneds at Judd's, doing puzzles, and playing Scrabble on the porch.
Though she was preceded in death by her parents, aunt, Mary Devlin, beloved husband Bill, and warm-hearted and fun-loving brothers-in-law Tedy Nadile, John Murray, and Bruce Stegman, and her treasured nieces Annie Murray and Mary McCarthy (née Murray) and nephew Matthew Stegman, her legacy is carried on by her loving family: her cherished sisters Mary Kay Nadile, Judy Stegman, Jane Murray, Patricia Nack, and brother-in-law Jim Nack, her daughter Andrea and son-in-law John, son Patrick, and her much loved grandchildren Hannah, Sam, Cameron, and Ellie, Hannah's partner Koji, and many nieces and nephews.
Anne's enduring spirit and the memories she created will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, please do what our mom would want and take a loved one to have, "A nice steak dinner," with a baked potato (extra butter AND sour cream) and an espresso martini and make a toast to herself, Bill, and Beanie
Sláinte! A good Irish woman has gone home.
