Gerald Patrick "Gerry" Meehan passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in his home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on April 28, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Alice and late Patrick Meehan. Gerry grew up in a lively household with his siblings; the late A. Patricia (the late Martin), Thomas (Kathleen), James (Pat), Mary, John (Leticia), the late Patrick Joseph, and Robert (the late Catherine). He married the love of his life, Margaret Meehan on September 4,1982. They had six children together- the late Megan, Amanda (Kyle), Sean, Katie (Kyle), Gerry Jr., and Colleen. Their home was always full of their children, nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids playing. Gerry was most proud of his beautiful grandchildren – Ella, Liam and Maeve, who always made him smile.
He graduated from St. Gregory High School in 1969. Gerry spent most of his career as a civil engineer at the Marquette Building downtown. His children, nieces and nephews have fond memories of going to work with him on Saturday mornings and exploring the building as he introduced them to his co-workers and tenants.
Gerry was one of the first people his loved ones would call when something broke as he was able to fix just about anything, which he coined the term "Gerry Rigging". Known in the neighborhood as the "Leader of the Linder Squad" as he was always happy to help a neighbor. He was an avid storyteller and could captivate rooms with his exaggerated stories. Those around him were always laughing at his dark sense of humor. He had many collections including records, movies, coins, and model cars.
Gerry was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, uncle and friend to many. He was the kind of man who made everyone feel like family. His humor, kindness, and steady presence brought comfort to those around him and he never hesitated to lend a hand or share a laugh. His love and support will be remembered, and his example will continue to guide those lucky to have known him.
