Mrs. Anne Coulter Griggs, 97, of Columbus, GA went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family January 3, 2026.
Anne was born July 29, 1928, in Muscogee County, GA to the late Harry Leonard Coulter and Alice Lockwood Coulter. She was a graduate of Columbus High School Class of 1945 and Auburn University (Alabama Polytechnic Institute) Class of 1949. Anne was a founding member of the Phi MU Sorority at Auburn University. She worked at Muscogee Mortgage, was a secretary at Trinity Church for many years, worked for WRBL in accounting, and volunteered at Evangel Church. She also was a contributor to the Latin America Child Care Organization for decades. Anne was an avid Bible reader; she loved gardening and watching her Auburn Tigers Football Team.
Survivors include two daughters, Cecilia Griggs Phillips (Joe) and Julie Griggs Durham; seven grandchildren, Joseph Phillips (Chelsi), Lauren Phillips Sullivan (Barrett), Kennon Phillips (Brookelyn), Madeline Phillips, Jordan Durham Goins (Andrew), Graham Durham (Lyndsey), and Anna Durham; seven great-grandchildren, Zeke Phillips, Maggie Phillips, Riley Phillips, Lennon Phillips, Griffin Durham, Westley Goins, and Danielle Goins; three nephews, Leonard Gray, Mike Smith (Leona), and Scott Smith; and three nieces, Suzanne Gray Taft (Kenny), Toni Gray Cash (Paul), and Susan Smith Rasins (Mark); and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James “Jimmy” Griggs, sisters, Harriet "Sue" Coulter Smith, Alice Coulter Gray, and her son-in-law, Danny Durham.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Evangel Church with Rev. Joe Phillips and Rev. Paul Thomas officiating. A private burial will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, January 5, 2026, from 5-7 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA. 31907.
