Anne Hooks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Massey Funeral Home on Jan. 10, 2026.
Anne Mazzetti Hooks, 98, a long-time resident of Monument Avenue in Bennington, Vermont, and more recently of Brookdale Filmore Pond died Thursday December 4, 2025, at Williamstown Commons in Williamstown, Massachusetts, surrounded by her family. Born on January 15, 1927, in Bronxville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Dora (Bargellini) Mazzetti. Anne spent her childhood years in Tuckahoe, New York, where she received her early education. In 1937, her family relocated to Bennington, Vermont. There, Anne continued her education and graduated from Bennington High School.

On July 15, 1961, Anne married George C. Hooks Jr. at the First Baptist Church in Bennington. During their marriage, they lived in Red Oak Iowa, Freemont Ohio and Cartersville Georgia. Though George passed away in 1974, Anne remained devoted to his memory for the rest of her life, honoring him with unwavering loyalty and love. Family was the cornerstone of Anne's life, and she cherished every opportunity to gather with her loved ones. She was known for her strength and courage, especially during the difficult time of her husband's tragic passing.

For many years, Anne was employed as a secretary in the engineering department at Union Carbide Corporation/Eveready. She retired in 1992. Anne also gave her time as a Grey Lady volunteer at the former Putnam Memorial Hospital (Southwestern Vermont Medical Center).

Anne's warmth and hospitality were evident to all who knew her. She was a gracious hostess, always elegant and poised. A talented pianist, Anne enjoyed entertaining family and friends with music during the holidays. She also enjoyed going out to lunch and playing bridge with her friends. She had a warm smile for everyone she met. She was charming and witty, always had a twinkle in her eye when she'd say something funny with her dry sense of humor.

In her later years, Anne enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching her favorite game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She was always the first one to call out the correct answer.

Anne is survived by her son, Stephen Hooks (Aileen) of Bennington, and her daughter, Amy Pudvar Smith (Tim) of Hancock, Massachusetts. She is also remembered by her grandchildren: Caleb Pudvar (Savannah) of Augusta, Maine; Zachary Hooks of Bellingham, Washington; Logan Hooks of Chicago, Illinois; Delaney Pudvar of Stamford, Vermont; and Emily Smith of Brooklyn, New York. Anne's brother, Anthony Mazzetti of Bennington, her niece, Dorothy Muir (Roger) of Bennington, grandniece Leah Weilacher (Michael) and their son Valentin of Berlin, Germany, sister-in- law Ouida Donald of Bessemer, Alabama, brother-in-law Kenneth Hooks of Louisville, Mississippi, also survives her as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Hooks Jr., her sister, Marfisa Pino, her son-in-law, Robert N. Pudvar, brother-in-law, Johnnie Horace Hooks, and brother-in-law, William Donald.

Visitation was held at Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A Catholic prayer service immediately followed the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, where Anne will be laid to rest beside her husband, George, at Murphy Creek Cemetery in Louisville with Bro. Junior Davis officiating.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Brookdale Filmore Pond, Williamstown Commons, Hospice nurses, SVMC Cancer Center, and SVMC Pownal campus for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Anne.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Anne Hooks may be made to SVMC Cancer Center in Bennington Vermont through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
