Annette (Anita) Louise Pensyl, 85, formally of 911 W. Chestnut Street, Coal Township, passed away peacefully Monday, January 3rd, at Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she was a resident for the past four years.
Born in Shamokin on November 29th, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Marziale (Martin) and Maria (Mary) Calabretta.
Anita attended Shamokin High School and was a graduate of the Shamokin School of Beauty Arts and Science. She was co-owner of Anita and Theresa Beauty Salon for many years with her sister Theresa, at 507 N. Second St., Shamokin, the present site of the Second St. Turkey Hill Minute Mart. She later owned her own shop in the family residence at 911 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township.
She was married in the former Saint Joseph’s Church on November 24, 1955, to Charles Herbert (Herb) Pensyl, Jr., who preceded her in death on June 7, 2007.
Anita enjoyed working in her salon, cooking and spending time with her family, was a member of the Our Lady of Hope Church.
Anita is survived by a son, Charles H. Pensyl III and his wife Patricia of Stonington; a daughter, Martina M. Boyle and her husband Roger of Mount Carmel; a son-in-law, Greg Snyder; six grandchildren, Charles Pensyl IV of Harrisburg, Laurie A. Krebs of Coal Township, Megan M. Pensyl of Kulpmont, Brandon Pensyl and his partner Kim Updegrave of Hegins, Gregory J. Snyder II of Coal Township and Cameron M. Pensyl and his wife Tifani of Colorado; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Blake and Cheyanne Pensyl, Austin Pensyl and Kyleigh and Kieran Krebs; a niece, Rose Marie Dormer and her husband Brian of Kulpmont; and a nephew Nicholas Ficca and his wife Katie of Georgia, along with numerous Nieces and Nephews in Nebraska and Cousins in Toronto and Montreal Canada, all of which she loved dearly.
Her home was always open to company, visits, and the occasional wayward soul Herb would bring home in need of a hot meal.
In addition to her husband and parents, Anita was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Snyder; father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles and Naomi Pensyl, Sr., two sisters, Theresa Ficca and her husband Nicholas, and Dr. Victoria M. Calabretta; an infant brother; and brother-in-law Guy Pensyl and his wife Charlotte and their daughter Missy, and a great grandson Landon Charles Krebs.
