Shamokin – John A. Dowd, 72, of 127 W Chestnut Street, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026 at his home.

Born in Danville on October 21, 1953 to the late Edward R. and Savina C. (Hartley) Dowd. John graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1971, he played on the football and wrestling teams. He attended Pennsylvania School of Technology.

He worked in construction as a foreman, and at Beiter’s Furniture. He was a member of St. Joseph’s in Shamokin. John was an avid pool and darts fan. His friends were not just friends, they were like family to him .He was a fan of the New York Yankees, and Notre Dame.

John is survived by three brothers, William Dowd and his wife, Cathy of Paxinos, James Dowd and his wife, Linda of TX, and Thomas Dowd and his wife, Heather of Middleburg; a sister, Carol O’Bryant and her husband, Darrell of Selinsgrove; four nephews, Michael Dowd and his wife, Jocelyn of MN, Jason Dowd of TX, Jeremy Dowd of TX, and Brian O’Bryant of Selinsgrove; two nieces, Stacy Albert and her husband, Jason of Camp Hill, and Victoria Dowd of Middleburg; many cousins; and his friend, Marie. John was preceded in death by his parents.

John A. Dowd, 72, of Shamokin – Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00 am at Farrow-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, PA, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. Burial will be held following the service at All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg.
