Anni Gesiene (Poppe) Horn, age 88 of Belmont, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Southwest Health following a brief illness. Anni was born on December 14, 1935, in Avon, South Dakota to Cord and Adelheid (Elhers) Poppe. She married Nickson P. Horn of Platteville on May 19, 1956. They lived in Mineral Point and Highland before moving to Belmont in 1977. She worked for Jenny Brothers, Besnier America.
She enjoyed camping, wintering in Arizona, playing cards, putting puzzles together, and spending time with her friends and family getting "a bite to eat."
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Irene Orth; daughter-in-law: Barbara Horn; granddaughter: Rachel Schuster; brother, Martin (Beth "Betty") Poppe; sisters-in-law: Marianne Poppe and Joanne (Don) Sadeweasser; brothers-in-law: LaVern "Snookie" (Coralie) Heller and Charles "Bud" Heller.
Anni is survived by her children: Dennis (Geralyn) Horn, Bernice Dorota, John (Joan) Horn, and Nick Horn; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers: John (Patti) Poppe and Richard Poppe; sister-in-law: Barbara Heller; as well as many, many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church, 346 S Mound Ave, Belmont. Visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service. Inurnment will be held at Highland Public Cemetery, Highland at a later date. The family would like to give a special thank you to Upland Hills Hospice for their compassionate care and support of Anni and the family. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Anni's neighbors, Gary Voigts and Julie Erickson, for their incredible kindness and friendship shown to Anni over the last 15 years.
