Douglas Reeson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorgen-McGinley & Ayers Funeral Home on Dec. 2, 2025.
"For this one farmer the worries are over, lie down and rest your head." - Nancy Kraayenhof, "Close the Gate"

Dodgeville – Douglas "Doug" Alan Reeson, 70, of Dodgeville, WI was called to Heaven's Gate on November 30, 2025, as God needed another good farmer to tend to the crops and cattle.

Doug was born on February 12, 1955 in Madison, WI, and graduated from Barneveld High School in 1973.

Doug met the love of his life, Marlene, in 1974, and the two were joined in marriage on October 30, 1976 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Dodgeville.

Dairy farming was his passion. Doug and Marlene owned and operated Eagle Heights Dairy in Barneveld from1978 to 2016, where they raised three sons and endured all the hardships farming can sometimes bring. But those hardships were met with hard work, love and resilience, which will get a family through anything.

Despite the rigorous schedule that comes with farming, Doug and Marlene always made time to watch their boys show cattle at the county and state fairs, were always present at their high school ballgames and enjoyed traveling the country to visit their two sons in the military.

Doug also served as the Brigham Township Chairperson for 10 years.

Doug treasured his time with family and friends, whether it was playing Euchre at holiday gatherings or offering a helping hand in the fields for the past several summers at the Swenson farm in Barneveld or Koty Laufenberg farm in Mazomanie.

More recently, Doug enjoyed his afternoon drives with Marlene, where they'd travel the driftless area to various apple orchards for some fresh cider, visit the numerous Amish stores around the Viroqua area and simply take in the beauty of the bluffs and fall colors. He appreciated all the free time he had in retirement to spend with Marlene.

While Marlene was the apple of his eye, Doug glowed with pride when talking about all three of his sons. And his tough exterior was finally broken down the day he became "Grandpa" to four grandchildren, who he loved dearly.

Doug is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marlene (Roh) Reeson, their three sons, Dr. Dustin (Janeen) Reeson, Cross Plains, WI, Jarrod Reeson (Ryan Vesely), Webster, MN and US Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Jess Reeson, St. Charles, MO; their "fourth son", Harley (Kara) Terrill, Hollandale, WI; four grandchildren, Brayden, Ella, Lyla and Jack; brothers and sisters Dr. David (Marlys) Reeson Jr., Blanchardville, WI, Audrey (Mike) Bath, Madison, WI, Marcia (Tom) Boyd, Dodgeville, WI, Dan (Mareen) Reeson, Blanchardville, WI, and Dean (Rae) Reeson, New Glarus, WI; brothers and sisters-in law Ruth (Chuck) Werkowski, West Allis, WI, Jane (Alan) Bruns, Janesville, WI, Doug Roh, Dodgeville, WI, Kay (John) Edler, Park Ridge, IL, Mary (Brent Retzlaff) Kenny, New Berlin, WI, Janelle (Lee Grobaski) Urben, Oregon, WI, Julie (John) Meyer, New Berlin, WI, and Lisa Lynch, Madison, WI. And dozens of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Reeson Sr., mother Jannette Reeson, stepmother Donna Reeson, father and mother-in-law, Edward and Dollie (Wisdom) Roh, brothers-in- law, Mike Kenny, Gary and John Roh, sister-in-law Jan Roh, nieces Dorothy Jo Reeson and Katie Urben and nephew Daniel Jerome (DJ) Reeson.

A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the RED ROOM BAR AND RESTAURANT in Dodgeville. The family asks anyone who knew Doug to attend and share their memories. Lunch and refreshments will be served.
