Annie Lee Henderson "Annie Lee," as she was affectionately called, was born on December 26, 1932, in Greenville, Alabama to the late Armer Belle Pugh and Walter Henderson. After the sudden death of Walter Henderson, Armer Bell married Elzie Futch and the family moved to Johnstown, PA. In Johnstown Annie's only sibling was born, the late Elzie Futch, Jr. After attending High School, Annie Lee left Johnstown and moved to Cleveland Ohio, where she attended nursing school at Cleveland Clinic, and obtained her LPN license and began her medical career.
Annie Lee would travel to Johnstown to visit her mother and one day she met Otis Brown and the two later married. From their marriage, two daughters were born, Teresa Brown and Brenda L. Brown. Otis and Annie Lee resided in Pittsburgh, PA until their divorce. Annie later met her late husband James C. Broadfield (JC), and the couple married in 1963. Shortly after marrying, they moved to Philadelphia, PA and in 1964 they gave birth to their daughter, Stacy A. Broadfield.
In Philadelphia, Annie Lee continued to work as an LPN and was the Head Nurse at Parkview, Chestnut Hill, and Germantown Hospital. After many years of serving and caring for her patients, Annie Lee eventually retired in 2001.
Annie Lee and JC were married until 2000 when he succumbed to pancreatic cancer. When JC was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he made Annie Lee promise to fulfill their dream of moving to Las Vegas. In 2002, Annie Lee fulfilled that promise and had been residing in Las Vegas where she lived and was cared for by her youngest daughter Stacy until her death.
She is survived by her three daughters, Teresa Brown-Walker (Lance Walker) of Downingtown, PA, Brenda L. Smith of Lake Wales FL, Stacy A Owens of
Las Vegas, NV., two grandchildren, Sierra L. Rhodes (Tavaris Rhodes) of Ellenwood, GA, Eugene T. Smith, II of Brooklyn, NY., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Annie Lee was a strong-willed devout Christian who deeply loved her family and friends. She loved having houseguests and hosting dinner and barbecues during the holidays. Anyone and everyone were always welcome to come by and grab a plate and get a slice of her famous sweet potato pies. When Annie Lee organized the 1st Henderson Family Reunion in Philadelphia, people traveled far and wide to attend the event and her famous pies had to be on the menu. Cooking for her family and friends brought her joy and a smile that could light up a room. Annie Lee's smile was infectious and will be missed. We will hold onto those memories as she lives on forever in our hearts.
