Annie Irene Evans, 95, of Reidsville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, July 27th, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Linwood Carver officiating. The burial will follow in Happy Home Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Irene was born on August 31, 1928 in Rockingham County to the late Wilford Hassell and Annie Boyd McCollum. In addition to working many years on the family tobacco farm, she retired from Williams and Company in Eden where she was a bookkeeper and sales associate. She was a member of Happy Home Congregational Christian Church where she served as Treasurer and Sunday School teacher.
Irene’s greatest joy was her family, who she loved and spoiled at any and every opportunity. Her absolute pride and joy was her great-granddaughter Jennie, who lovingly referred to her as “Renie”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold Evans, son Gary Evans, brothers Wilford, Alec and Josh McCollum, and grandson Dustin Evans. Irene is survived by her grandson Patrick Evans (Anna) of Reidsville, great-granddaughter Jennie Evans of Madison, MS, daughter-in-law Deborah Evans of Greenville, NC, several very loving nieces and nephews, and her sweet cat Cream Puff.
We are very grateful to Irene’s niece Debra Colby for her frequent visits and constant support throughout Irene’s journey. We would also like to extend a thank you to Ancora Compassionate Care of Rockingham County and a very special thank you to her care givers Angela Broadnax, Gina Brame, and Crystal Walker, who she loved like family.
Memorials may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 or Happy Home Church, Cemetery Fund, 6941 NC Highway 700, Ruffin, NC 27326.
