Annie Currie Hamlett, 95, of Durham, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. She was born on November 15, 1928 in Durham to the late John and Hilda Currie.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Walter “Harvey” Hamlett and brothers, Robert D. Currie, Carlos Lee Currie and Von Currie.
Mrs. Hamlett worked in the cafeteria at IBM for over 15 years until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Durham for over 50 years where she was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Ruth Bible Class.
Annie was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing and cooking what she produced. She also loved to crochet and keep journals, especially about her children. In the past she always looked forward to going to the beach with Harvey. She will be remembered as a self-sufficient, caring and giving woman who had a great sense of humor. Mrs. Hamlett will be deeply missed by her beloved children, grandchildren, siblings and many friends she made in her long and wonderful life.
Mrs. Hamlett is survived by her daughters, Linda H. Lay (Randall), Cheryl H. Raymer (Michael), Darlene H. Tillman (Steve) and Rebecca J. Hamlett; son, Randall J. Hamlett (Charlene W.); brother, Durwood Currie; sister, Virginia C. Harris; grandchildren, Adam Raymer, Jarred Raymer, Audra Smith (Nathaniel), Kristen Lay, Lauren Lay, Matthew Tillman, Jordan Tillman, Melissa Hamlett, Joshua Hamlett and Caleb Gregory (Tess); 3 great grandchildren and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 10:15 A.M. Pastor Roger Wall will officiate. Interment will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham.
Flowers are acceptable.
