Annie "Shay" Bolan Higdon, age 76, of Franklin, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025.
Born in Moulton, Alabama, Annie was the beloved daughter of the late Wes and Ora Johnson Bolan. She spent her early years in Alabama before moving with her family to Pontiac, Michigan, where she met the love of her life, Teddy Marshall "Wolf" Higdon, while he was working at the car plant. Together, they eventually returned to Macon County, North Carolina, where they built a life filled with love, creativity, and community.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Teddy; her daughter-in-law, Connie Bishop Higdon; her sister, Olphelia Higdon; and two brothers, Andy Bolan and Buddy Bolan.
She is survived by her devoted sons: Tim Higdon, Bo Higdon (Tina), and Denver Higdon (Alicia); eight cherished grandchildren: Vanesa Higdon, Garrett Higdon (Emilee), Dillon Higdon, Amber Higdon, Alexa Higdon, Alyssa Higdon, Heidi Shope, and Sydney Luzzi (Jay); and her loving siblings: Dorothy "Peno" Holland (Bruce), Jo Snyder (Joe), and Diane "Dink" Anderson, all of Michigan. Annie also leaves behind her spirited canine companion, Toby.
A proud member of Higdonville Baptist Church, Annie found joy in her faith, her family, and her many passions. She was a gifted artist who loved painting and drawing, and she shared a deep love for flowers and gardening with her husband. Together, they cultivated gardens across the community, creating beauty wherever they went. Annie also enjoyed traveling out west, cooking for loved ones, and spending time with her family, who were the center of her world.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8th from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Higdonville Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm officiated by Rev. Gene Hawkins. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Garrett Higdon, Dillon Higdon, Donald Holland, Heath Higdon, Wes Higdon, and Anthony Higdon. Honorary pallbearers include David Holland and Chris Williams.
Annie's legacy of love, creativity, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
