Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Joyce, 89, a resident of the Masonic Care Community, Utica, formerly of Gilmore Village, S. Utica, passed away on Saturday October 18, 2025, at the nursing home.
Annie was born on February 5, 1936, in St. John's, Newfoundland, the daughter of Percy and Rachael (Hardy) Jones and received her education there. On November 1, 1956, Annie was united in marriage with Herbert C. Joyce in Newfoundland, a loving union of 21 years until Herbert's passing in 1977. Annie enjoyed sewing, knitting and was an avid doll maker and collector. She was of the protestant faith.
Mrs. Joyce is survived by her son-in-law, James Slattery of Yorkville; cherished grandchildren, James "Jamie" (Marissa Bailey-Mason) Mason of Oriskany, Travis Slattery of Yorkville, Shawn Slattery of Whitesboro, Sherry (Jay) Slattery of Utica, and James Slattery of Utica; one sister, Helen Johnson of Newfoundland as well as several adored great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and her extensive family in Newfoundland. Besides her husband Herbert, Annie was predeceased by an infant daughter, Bonnie Joyce; daughter, Sheree Slattery; granddaughter, Brandey Slattery; two sisters, Mary "Ami" Abbott and Eileen Fowler and one brother, William Jones.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Annie's Funeral on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. She will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, October 22nd from 5:00-7:00 pm. Those wishing to donate in Annie's memory, please consider the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI), 507 Kent St., Utica, NY 13501. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
