Annie Lou Stafford Mitchell, 81, peacefully departed this Earth surrounded by the ones she loved in the comfort of her Holden, Louisiana, home on October 21, 2025. Born January 2, 1944, in Independence, Louisiana, to Hillery and Clotile Stafford, she lived a beautiful life of compassion and devotion.
Annie Lou was known as a mother to many. Her Christian faith guided her value of kindness and her servitude nature. Even in her youth, she was a class favorite, endearing to her peers. On June 8, 1963, she married her childhood sweetie, Jerry. Together, they lived a lifetime of love for each other, family, and community. She was a beacon of warmth for those in need. Her home was a safe haven where her love was boundless, and her kitchen was always fragrant with southern comfort meals. She never met a four-legged friend without a treat in hand. She brought to life her flower beds with Holland tulips and moss roses- a passion she shared with her momma, Tull. During her career as an accountant, she ventured into golf of which she shared its challenges and camaraderie with her granddaughter, Hannah. After retiring, she came full circle to Holden School, where she had once been a student, becoming "Granny Annie" as a beloved teacher's aide.
Annie is survived by her son, Jerry 'Duane" Mitchell (Crystal); nephews, Derek Cutrer (Heather) and Jeremy "J.J." Cutrer (Crystal); sisters, June Duczer (Alex), Paulette Davis (Steve), Bobbie Stafford, and Sandy James (Ted); brother, Hillery Stafford Jr. (Julie); grandchildren, Hannah Mitchell (Chris), Dustin Cutrer, Victoria Cutrer, and Ethan Infinger; great-grandchild, Kolbie Wright; sister-in-laws, Wilda Louque and Fayrene Mitchell; as well as her fur babies.
Annie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Jerry Mitchell; father, Hillery F. Stafford; biological mother, Elizabeth Clotile Barber; and mother, Ethel A. Barber "Tull".
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home 12012 Hwy. 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Howze Cemetery.
