Annie Swagerty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home on Mar. 5, 2025.
Annie Ruth Swagerty who went by the name "Ruth" was born on July 31, 1949 in Cleveland, OH. Ruth was the daughter of Carl Carter Sr. And Lois Mitchell. Ruth accepted Christ at an early age of 10 and attended Triedstone Baptist Church of Cleveland. Ruth and her first husband Robert A. Vassar spread their wings from the city and moved to the rural area of Andover, OH. There they were blessed to raise a family that consisted of Carl Carter Jr., Davida Vassar, and Dedra Vassar. In Andover they built a home and a farm of hogs, chickens, litter of half wolf husky puppies, bushels of wild blackberries, fields of apple and cherry trees, plus a big, beautiful garden. They created a grand life together. Unfortunately, at the young age of 34 years old Ruth became a widow. Ruth raised her children with the strength of 10 men. Ruth maintained the land and kept a close watch on her children. Annie Ruth found her strength, kept her faith, and continued to live on. As the saying goes,"Won't he Will!". She was a homemaker but kept busy by earning her Cosmetology license and beginning a new business called Annie's Above the Rest catering company. Ruth was a busy woman with many talents who successfully served her community, family, and friends.
Ruth remarried many years later to Minister William Swagerty. The Swagerty's joined and served God at Elder Mitchell Jones church Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ of Ashtabula, OH. They spent their time together still maintaining the home, land, church going, traveling, of course grilling out of the Swags food truck, and raising grandchildren which involved lots of ice cream and McDonalds. William passed away in 2010. But Ruth once again found her strength and kept busy. Ruth served on the Mother's Board, Chair of The Anniversary Committee, participated on the Kitchen Committee, Finance Committee, and Home & Foreign Mission Committee. The house and land became harder for Ruth to maintain, but with the help of great neighbors, the Conley's, she was able to stay as long as she did. Ruth eventually relocated to Beachwood Ohio several years ago to be closer with family and friends as she spent much more time with them.
Ruth completed her work down here on earth and passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, February 21, 2025.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Carl Sr. and Lois Carter, her sisters Carlee Featherstone and Gertrude Carter. She also is preceded in death by her first husband Robert Vassar and her second husband William Swagerty. She is survived by her 3 children Carl Carter (Kendra Reddick), Davida Vassar, and Dedra Vassar. She is also survived by her grandchildren Syria Vassar, Zecheriah Vassar, step granddaughter Ashley Reddick, 2 grand pets, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends across the globe. Annie Ruth, persevered through adversity with grace. Ruth was a strong woman of faith, talents, full of love and purpose. So yes, if anyone asks, she had a good life. "Well done my good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25:21
