Annie Ruth Thomas

Annie Ruth Thomas was born on June 26, 1940, to the late George Ellis Sr. and Bessie Mae Jackson Ellis in Dupont, GA. She was a member of the Church of Christ Written in Heaven and served as a deaconess, one of the church mothers, a member of the choir, and would often visit the sick. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her most important role was as a dedicated follower and disciple of Jesus Christ, who avidly shared her faith as a living example. She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized in Dupont, GA.
She was a member of the Center High School class of 1959. Her employment began with working at the Ware Hotel, followed by positions at Ruben Brothers, Gold Kist, and the Cigar Factory before her final position at Waycross Molding.
She was joined in holy matrimony with James L. Thomas Sr. on January 18, 1957. This union was blessed with five children. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were trained to love and follow the Lord. This training is reflected in all her children and numerous grandchildren who also follow Christ and serve in church ministry, with one as a pastor, several ministers, and leaders.
She was preceded in death by both parents, George B. Ellis Sr. and Bessie Mae Jackson Ellis; siblings: George Ellis Jr., Earlie Lee Ellis (Louvenia), Mary Ellis, and Martha Ellis; granddaughter: Jamayah Desiree Thomas; grandsons: Eddie "Marlo" Cooper (Laneshia), Bentley Federick, and Kenneth Haven Moody Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James L. Thomas, Sr. of Waycross, GA; five adult children: Dr. James L. Thomas, Jr. (Vickie) of Fayetteville, NC, Minister Larry J. Thomas (Shirlyn) of Jennings, FL, Elder Carolyn Thomas Sellers of Waycross, GA, Deborah Rouse (Jimmy Sr.) of Jacksonville, FL, and Sherry Moody (Kenneth) of Blackshear, GA; one sister: Luella Person (Clarence "Tony") of Waycross, GA; two sisters in law: Minnie Dotson and Louvenia Ellis of Waycross, GA; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate her life have been scheduled for Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 am at Church of Christ Written in Heaven. A public viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.
