Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory - Cumming on Feb. 4, 2026.
Annie Lee Welsh (Skippy) passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2026. Skippy is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Claire Davidson and her sister Paulette Reynolds. She was born in
Thomaston, GA in 1945 and later moved to Marrietta, GA. She graduated from Marietta high school and then was married to Don Welsh in 1965. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, three children Brian Welsh, Brandy Cleveland and her husband Craig and Bridget Christian and her husband Eric all of
Cumming, GA, six grandchildren Cade Cleveland and his wife Gina of Doraville, GA, Zach Welsh of Gainesville GA, Gracen Cleveland and her fiancée Parker Covington of Knoxville TN, Austin Christian and his fiancée Caroline Crowley of New Braunfels, TX, Wyatt Christian and Tanner Christian of
Cumming, GA, and one great-grandchild, Connor Cleveland of Doraville, GA.
After Skippy's marriage she and Don moved to South Florida where her first child Brian was born, two years later Brandy arrived. She thought that was the perfect family until Don moved her to Schonich Germany where a surprise package arrived named Bridget. The two years in Germany were spent travelling throughout Europe. Her return to the US took her to
Macon, GA where she spent four years making great friends. Macon turned into South Florida again and she was highly active in her kids' sports and tennis. She organized a fund-raising event for the kids' school which featured a Blue Angels air show. 1979 brought her to
Dunwoody, GA where again kids sports, and tennis took up a lot of time. She still had time to stage several spectacular fundraising events for Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.
In 1995 her first grandchild Cade arrived and her name changed to Pippy as Cade struggled with "S" in Skippy. As the list of grandchildren grew the name stuck and eventually even friends began calling her Pippy.
Another international assignment took her and Don to London for two years and Amsterdam for six months. Another chance for her to expand her list of friends. On her return to Dunwoody, she reengaged in her grandchildren's activities. She spent nearly fifteen years enjoying her weekends on the houseboat. Summers brought the legendary "Camp Pippy" for the grandkids. It was a chance to take the boat out to an island for the weekend, camping and cooking on the beach. Another move took her to
Roswell, GA and then to
Cumming, GA where she became incredibly involved in the Forsyth County Ladies League. Lately in addition to Bridge, she began playing Mahjong, Hand & Foot and Shanghai. As you can imagine she made many remarkably close friends in these activities. Her annual winter trips to Miramar Beach FL allowed her to make even more friends and continue playing the card and board games she enjoyed.
In 2025 Skippy and Don celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a cruise from New York to Montreal. As usual, she was the life of the party and as it was a small boat she made friends quickly. Then in November she celebrated her 80th birthday with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. It was a night to remember!
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, and she spent countless enjoyable hours attending their school and sports events. The oldest grandchild, Cade, got married and recently had her first great-grandchild, Connor, who she adored. Gracen and Austin are planning weddings this year which she was very much looking forward to. Wyatt is a freshman in college at West Georgia and Tanner is completing his senior year in high school this year and is deciding which college to attend in the fall.
Skippy spent a full life actively engaged in the things she liked to do, enjoying the company of the friends she has made, her children's successes, all the grandchildren's activities and achievements, and special moments with her first great grandchild. She was determined to live life to the fullest and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
