Rosemary Cookie Welsh

Rosemary (Schmid) Welsh, 85, of Glen Dale, WV, passed away on February 15, 2026, in Salem, Ohio. Her family grieves the loss of the steadfast heart of the family, a devoted wife of over 64 years, loving mother to eight sons, and a cherished grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and great aunt whose boundless love shaped generations and whose legacy will live on in those who love her.

She was born on August 27, 1940, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Elizabeth (Brant) Schmid. A graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, "Cookie" previously worked at the law firm of Camiletti & Camiletti, the B&O Railroad, Dairy Mart, and Quality Sitters, and was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Glen Dale.

She is predeceased by her sister Katherine Twigg Long and brothers Joseph and William H. Schmid. Survivors include her husband James J. "Jimmy" Welsh; brother George (Bonnie) Schmid; sister Margie Schiffer; sons: Kevin (Lee), David, John, Dan, Tom (Susan), Chris, Jeff (Kate), and Brendan (Katie); 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and others whom she loved so dearly.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 20, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Saturday, February 21, from 9:00 am until time of a Rosary Service at 9:30 am, all at Altmeyer Funeral Homes Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall St., McMechen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21, at 11:00 am at St. Jude Catholic Church in Glen Dale.
