Sandy L. Jafrate

Sandra Lee "Sandy" Jafrate, 79, of Benwood, WV, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Wheeling Hospital.

She was born May 8, 1946, in Benwood, a daughter of the late Elzie and Dessie (Robins) Whitlatch. A devout member of St. John's Catholic Church, Sandy's faith was a guiding light throughout her life.

Sandy dedicated much of her professional life to serving as an Office Supervisor at both Hills Department Store until its closing and Kohl's. Beyond her career, Sandy had a passion for travel and cherished the time she spent with her family. Her journeys took her to many places, but it was always the return home to her loved ones that brought her the greatest joy.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by four siblings, James Whitlatch, Elsie Ross Whitlatch, Margaret Canterbury and Angela Loy.

Sandy is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Alan Jafrate; two children, Dana Lynn (Mark Hayes) Jafrate of Wickliffe, OH and Chris Jafrate; her beloved granddaughter, Rachel Hayes; five siblings, Samantha "Mancy" Mucheck, Irene Paravanni, Penny West, Anna Mae Gracik and Brenda Villani; several nieces and nephews and her dog, Rusty.

Family and friends will be received Friday, February 27, 2026 from 6-8 pm and again Saturday, February 28, from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Ave. with Rev. Doney Chacko officiating.

The family would like to thank Dr. Comerci and his staff for all of the care and support they have provided to Sandy.
