Virginia Lee Richardson, affectionately known as "Ginger," passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on November 7, 1937, in
Wheeling, West Virginia, Ginger touched the hearts of everyone she met with her kind spirit and generous heart.
Ginger dedicated many years of her life to serving as a crossing guard at Corpus Christi Grade School. She found immense joy in interacting with the children, their families, teachers, and staff who all cherished her warm, smiling presence at the school.
Her favorite activity was playing Bingo, which brought her great happiness. Ginger also enjoyed quiet moments spent with a word search book.
Catholic by faith, Ginger was a hardworking and strong woman who deeply loved and cared for her family and friends. Her unwavering spirit and compassionate nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Virginia (Reukauf) O'Connell; her beloved husband, Don Richardson; daughters, Ellen Kay Church and Frances Jean Kerry; brothers, Jack, Tom, Kenny, George, and Mike O'Connell; and sister, Ellen Heller.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sharon Rose (Robert); sons, Thomas Kerry and Donald Richardson; grandchildren, Devon Rose (Tiffany Dodd), Charles Rose (Jenna Fenimore), Mackenzie Watson, and MacKayla Watson; her great-grandson, Deven "D.J." James Rose; her cherished dog, Ranger; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 2-5 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, located at 214 Marshall St.,
McMechen, WV. A funeral service will be celebrated the following day, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the same location with Deacon Doug Breiding as celebrant, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling.
