Dan Richardson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kepner Funeral Home - Elm Grove on Mar. 19, 2026.
Dan Lynn Richardson, loving husband and father, passed away on March 16, 2026, in Wheeling Hospital from heart failure. Dan was born on March 11, 1952, and spent his career as a beloved elementary school teacher at Woodsdale Elementary School where he was one of the inaugural teachers hired when the building opened to students. He had a deep passion for football as both a star player in high school and lifelong fan. He did not meet a sport in which he could not succeed. He was fond of golf in his later years where he ended his career celebrating victory over his brother Tom.

Dan also had a love of history, recounting stories that shaped the country with a spark in his eye, tales that were enjoyed by all who heard and will be deeply missed. He was strong, kind, and resolute. He loved a good story and a good classic Western. He had an ease in this world that was reassuring, and he made everyone around him feel that things were going to be okay. He loved his pets like family and his good boy Rocky is going to miss him.

He is survived by his lifelong love and wife, Deborah Richardson, to whom he was endlessly devoted, and his only son, Theodor Richardson, as well as brothers Tom, Greg, Andy, and Herby. He will be remembered for his warm nature, kind smile, and joyous laughter.

There will be a small service for family only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Marshall County Animal Shelter (Website: https://www.mcwvanimalshelter.com/donation; Phone: 304-845-9770; Email: [email protected]).
