John David Richardson, age 93, of Charleston, IL passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at his home surrounded by family. He was born September 11, 1932 in Casey, IL; the son of Paul and Opal (Rodebaugh) Richardson.

John was a 1950 graduate of Casey High School and a member of the Future Farmers of America. After high school and a short stint working at the shoe factory, he was drafted to serve the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent his time in Trieste Italy as a transportation specialist.

After his service, John worked for the Gust K. Newberg Construction Company for thirty years. He became a master carpenter and was the construction foreman on projects at the Toyota Plant in Princeton, IN and the Ameren Power Plant in Newton, IL.

After several years of dating, John married Sharon (Williams) on June 29, 2000. They enjoyed numerous cross-country trips visiting national parks, dog racing tracks, casinos and family. John was the last surviving member of his war reunion class. During his retirement, he worked in his wood shop building or repairing items for friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Richardson; son, David (Lina) Richardson of Leesburg, FL; son, Stacey (Camilla) Williams of Casey, IL; daughter, Tammy DeWitt of Fairview Heights, IL; daughter, Chrissy (Kurt) Squires of Casey, IL; nephew, Steve (Pamela) Richardson of Newbern, TN; niece, Dee Anna (Russ) Crist of Schererville, IN; five grandkids; and seven great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Lee (Shirley) Richardson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2025 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Solorio officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Casey VFW Post 5762, 300 S. Central Ave., Casey, IL 62420.
