Sarah Sue Gilbert

Sarah Sue Gilbert, age 61, of Casey, IL passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, Terre Haute, IN. She was born July 6, 1964 in Terre Haute, IN; the daughter of Dean Franklin Shute and Carolyn Sue (Hills) Shute. On September 1, 1984 she married James Clark Gilbert, Jr. in Casey, IL.

Survivors include her husband of forty-one years, James Gilbert of Casey, IL; daughter, Ceara Edwards (Michael Dungan) of Marshall, IL and her children Maverick Edwards, Gryffin Wheeler, Emory and Ellianna Dungan; son, Derek Gilbert (Kayla) of Charleston, IL and his children Connor and Caroline Gilbert; sister, Dena Gard (Eric) of Casey, IL; mother-in-law, Ava Gilbert of Brocton, IL; sister-in-law, Jamilla Wilson (Rick) of Kansas, IL; brother-in-law, Brad Gilbert of Brocton, IL; nieces and nephews, Nikolaus Gard of Sullivan, IL, Mikaela Gard of Casey, IL, Kamie Pedigo (Tom) of Rhoadesville, VA, and Jared Wilson of Kansas, IL; and several great nieces and nephews; aunts, Mary Lou Shute of Tuscola, IL, Joyce Madlem of Robinson, IL, and Anna Hills Shlachter (Josh) of Gurnee, IL;. She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Stephanie Lucille Wilson; aunt, Irma Robinson (Harold); uncles, Darrell Shute (Peggy), Dolph Shute, Bob Hills, Charles Hills; and father-in-law, Jim Gilbert.

Sarah was a 1982 graduate of Casey High School. She was a line leader at Casey Tool & Machine and Charles Industries both of Casey, IL. Sarah faithfully attended the Casey Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Friendship United Methodist Church. She loved her family and cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. noon on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Billie Ray Ulrey and Kyle Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL 62420.
