Stephen Honselman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Markwell Funeral Home - Casey on Feb. 13, 2026.
Stephen Dale Honselman, age 71, of Casey, IL passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Willow Breeze Hospice House, Mattoon, IL. He was born December 11, 1954, in Monticello, IL, the son of Wilbur Dean Honselman and Marilyn Louise (Huisinga) Honselman. On June 22, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Carla Sue Biggs in Casey, IL.

Steve lived in Parker Township, with most of his life spent on the family farm, and later years in Casey, IL, near Fairview Park where he enjoyed family and friends stopping by after events at the park. He attended school in Westfield and Casey, where he played basketball as a Casey Warrior, sang in the choir and performed with the Drama Club. Steve farmed with his father and brother on the family farm in Parker Township. Eventually he was joined by his son, Michael, and son-in-law, Adam Shoaff. Steve's love for farming and passion for being a good steward of the land were instilled in him by his grandfathers, Herb Huisinga, and Wilbur Park Honselman.

Steve supported his community and the surrounding area by serving as the Parker Township Supervisor for many years, and two terms on the Casey-Westfield School Board. He was a member of the Sarah Bush Lincoln Foundation Board and later served on the Sarah Bush Lincoln Board of Directors from 2007 through 2016. He enjoyed singing in the Legacy Quartet, the Coles County Barbershop Chorus, Banks of the Wabash Barbershop Chorus, Wesley Chancel Choir, and Casey Far-Off-Broadway Players. Steve was baptized and faithfully attended the Casey United Methodist Church as a young man and later Charleston Wesley United Methodist Church. As a father and a grandfather, he was a proud presence at his children's and grandchildren's events and was well known by their friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Carla Honselman of Casey, IL; children, Tracy (Chris) Gelb, Michael (Michelle) Honselman, and Cara (Adam) Shoaff; grandchildren, Sydney, Riley, and Madilyn Gelb, Niah Honselman, and Eli and Eva Shoaff, all of Casey, IL. He is also survived by siblings, Kathy Maulding, Terry (Renee) Honselman all of Casey, IL, and Lynn (Kenneth) Hutchens of Marshall, IL; in-laws, Janet Squires, Debbie and Mark Grubb, Vickie Biggs, Shelby and Donna Biggs, and Roger and Brenda Biggs, and his much loved mother-in -law, Helen Biggs of Casey, IL; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, David Bruce Honselman; brothers-in-law, Dan Maulding, William Squires and Bradley Biggs; grandparents, Herb and Belva Huisinga, Wilbur and Kate Honselman, and Guynell Honselman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Casey Methodist Church with Rev. Bradley Shumaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening, February 16, 2026, at Casey Methodist Church, 703 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. 62420.
