Arthur Dean "Silver Foxx" Gilbert

Arthur Dean Gilbert passed away at his home in Woodward, IA on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

Arthur Dean Gilbert was born on September 6, 1941, to Ralph and Gladys (Locke) Gilbert of Woodward, Iowa.

Art attended and graduated from Woodward Community School District and then attended two years at Boone Junior College. He was trained in law enforcement and started his career as a police officer for the city of Woodward. He served 14 years as assistant chief of police. He then took employment at John Deere in Ankeny, where he worked for 20 years before retiring. After retirement, he continued in his love of law enforcement, working for the county sheriff's office as an inmate transportation officer.

Art loved his country and his community. He lived his whole life in Woodward. In addition to his work as a police officer, Art was a member of the Woodward volunteer fire department for 19 years and was fire chief from 1973 to 1975. He also served on the Woodward City Council and as Mayor of Woodward.

Art was the weather reporter for the city of Woodward, tracking weather data for the National Weather Service and local stations. He was meticulous with his care of his house, car, and especially his yard. Art loved to drive around on his golf cart and keep an eye on the town. He was known as Silver Foxx to most people. He was a collector of coins, Coke products, and John Deere collectables, and he loved his family very much.

Art is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Gladys Gilbert of Woodward, his grandparents Irva and Dora Gilbert of Woodward and Charles and Iva Locke of Woodward, his sister Norma Jean Gilbert Blazer, and his sons Brian Dean Gilbert and Mark Alan Gilbert.

He is survived by his daughter Christi Marie Gilbert (Brian) Devick, Grandchildren Anthony Devick, Nicholle Carlson, Natthanial Devick, Josh Gilbert, Joe Gilbert, Anna Gilbert, Erin Gilbert Riddler, Dani Gilbert Klavins, and great grandchildren: Lauren Devick, Cassie Devick, Greysen Laird, Jordan Devick, Whitney Devick, Jameson Gilbert, Silas Gilbert, and Graham Klavins.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Woodward United Methodist Church in Woodward, IA. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the church. Burial will be in the Woodward Cemetery.
