Kathleen Scott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Dunn’s Funeral Home from Feb. 13 to Feb. 17, 2026.
Kathy (Kathleen) Scott, 80, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Wesley On Grand.

Born on July 24, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, Kathy was the daughter of Edmund J. and Wanda C. (Bielecki) Scott. She attended Bentley High School and Henry Ford Community College. Those who knew Kathy from her youth will likely recall that she enjoyed drawing and painting. She married in 1967, beginning her family and career in the Detroit area, where she built the early foundation of her adult life.

In 1983, Kathy moved with her children to West Des Moines, where she made her home for more than 40 years. She spent much of her career as a contract specialist with Principal Financial Group. After retiring, she embraced a quieter life, finding joy in being a grandmother and in spoiling her dogs. Friends will remember the many evenings spent visiting on back porches, sharing stories and companionship. She was funny, a little fiery, and always up for a visit.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Danielle Starner; her son, Scott Gordinier; and her grandchildren, Kennedy Fatzinger, Ryan Starner, and Maisie Gordinier. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Elaine Henry.

Honoring Kathy's wishes, she will be cremated, and no formal services are planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy's honor to a charity of the donor's choice.
