Anthony Abbott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society - Greater Kansas City, Missouri - Rayt on Mar. 3, 2026.
Anthony "Grand Tony" Abbott passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on February 13, 2026. He left this world to spend Valentine's Day with his beloved wife Barbara.

Tony was born on February 11, 1939 in New Deal, MT. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Paratrooper. Following his military service, he retired from the gas service company, where he also served as president of the labor union. Over the years, he built a successful business in Northeast Kansas City and remained actively involved in his community. Tony participated in local politics and served on the Economic Development Corporation, always working to support growth and opportunity in the area.

He was generous by nature and donated regularly to many charities. Tony had a deep love for animals and was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He loved to travel and made many memorable trips to attend games at stadiums across the country.

After the passing of his beloved wife, Tony embraced life fully. On most weekends, you could find him dancing to his favorite local band, Headz Up. Known affectionately by the band as "Tony Two Hats" because of his impressive hat collection, he brought energy and joy wherever he went. Proudly calling himself the toughest SOB in the valley, Tony truly lived an effervescent and spirited life.

He leaves behind sisters, Bernadine Abbott-Hoduski and Leal Abbott; brother, John Abbott; and a multitude of nieces and nephews- Mark and Brian were especially close to Tony; two children, Rick Abbott and Rebecca (Gary) Dunn; three granddaughters, Jenny (Eric) Simpson, Kelly Abbott and Christina (Paul) Abbott-Allee; honorary granddaughter, Gennifer Vallejos; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
