Anthony "Tony" Arnone passed away peacefully at his home on January 20, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born on September 9, 1929 to Guissepe and Maria Antonia Arnone, he was a lifelong resident of Akron.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, his longtime companion, Becky Patton, and his siblings, Ann Arcuri, Angie Kelly, Rita Scalia, Mary Varca, and Joseph and Raymond Arnone. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Tracey, daughter, Elisa, and grandchildren, Anthony and Maria Arnone.
Respected by all who knew him, Tony will be remembered for his generosity to others and his good sense of humor (as he liked to say, his "kibitzing"). He will also be remembered for his patronage of all of the iconic Akron restaurants, especially Nick Anthe's, Gus's Chalet, Papa Joe's and Diamond Grille. Always a big tipper at every restaurant he frequented, he had an impeccable fashion style, a love of cigars, and he loved leading the Bread Dance at all the family weddings. Most of all, he will be remembered for the love he had for his family. Papa Tony loved unconditionally his children, grandchildren, siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Ciryak Celebrant at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church and School, 83 Mosser Place, Akron, Ohio 44310.
