Affectionately known as "Pa," Louis "Steve" Robinson passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on November 13, 2025. Born in Calhoun County, West Virginia to Cody Lee and Audra Robinson, Steve was the youngest of the Robinson children. The family relocated to the Akron, Ohio area is the early 50's.
Steve enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and served two tours in Vietnam as a combat engineer. He took pride in his "15 minutes of fame" when featured in a Walter Cronkite special covering the war, where he was front and center demonstrating how land mines were located and detonated to protect soldiers and civilians. Sadly, the war followed Steve home where he battled the effects of Agent Orange for the remainder of his years. Fourteen years ago, he was given the gift of more time with a kidney transplant that gave us fourteen additional years to cherish him here on earth. After his military service, Steve dedicated over 30 years to Akron Public Schools.
In his 77 years, Steve was many things-a son, brother, veteran, hero, husband, dad, "Pa," friend to many with a sarcastic quick wit that kept us all in stitches. But above all, he was best known as a family man, fully present and devoted. In retirement, he loved spending time with 'his boys,' classic car shows, casino slots, and cheering on his grandchildren as their #1 fan from the stands.
Steve leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons Danny (Shoko) and Eric (Starr); grandsons Connor (Mattie), Logan (Brooke), Bradyn, Levi, and Romeo, brother Dale Robinson, sisters Naomi Litton, Ileen (Glenn) Sedgwick and Sharon (Steve) Cooper, and sisters-in-law Paulette and Claris Robinson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Cheryl Ann "Ma" Robinson, who passed away in December 2022. Ma & Pa were the perfect match and living examples of devotion to each other, their family, and community. Steve was also preceded by his brothers Richard, Dean, Clarence, Larry, and Jerry Robinson, and his sisters Ana Lee Lucas and Sylvia Xenias.
A funeral service to honor Steve's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19th at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron, Ohio, with visitation at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following, Military Honors will be rendered at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44273.
While Steve's last few weeks were spent in decline at the Veteran's Hospice Center, his family was given a precious gift of time-reliving the best of times with him and caring for him, never leaving his side, just as he wanted. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to support veterans through charitable causes such as the Cleveland Veteran's Affairs Medical Center or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, "In honor of those who sacrificed for freedom-lest we never forget."
