Obituary of Anthony E. Balavitch, Jr.
October 4, 1934 – May 27, 2025
Anthony E. Balavitch Jr. Age 90 of Brownstown.
Beloved husband of Alice Balavitch. Loving father of Catherine (Brian) Bradley, Laura (Robert) Gomez, Anthony Balavitch III, Robert (Jamie) Balavitch, David (Diane) Balavitch, James (Patricia) Balavitch, Michael (Rebecca) Balavitch and the late Joseph Balavitch. Dearest grandfather of Allison Bradley, Tricia (Ryan) King, Robert (Camila) Gomez, Elisabeth (Andrew Kramer) Bock, Isabela Balavitch, Madeline Balavitch, Adam Balavitch, Alexandra (Adam Tester) Balavitch, John (Kristine) Balavitch, Ani Balavitch, Andrew (Charlotte) Balavitch, Timothy Balavitch, Daniel (Brittany) Balavitch, Aspen Balavitch and the late Patrick Balavitch. Dear brother of Judith (the late Thomas) Sherman. Also survived by 13 great grandsons and 3 great granddaughters.
FAMILY TRIBUTE:
A gifted storyteller, Anthony Balavitch was never one to shy away from the humor in life, and whose love for his family could only be surpassed by their collective love for him.
Tony was a humble man, preferring to lift up those that he cared about rather than promote himself. For those who were fortunate to have crossed paths with Tony, know that he has likely told numerous flattering stories about you, whether you liked it or not. Still, he carried pride in his faith, heritage, and service as a devoted Catholic, proud Lithuanian, Notre Dame alumnus, Knight of Columbus, and former Wyandotte Police and Fire Commissioner.
He was a hardworking man whose dedication to running the family business, Westgate Appliance in Wyandotte, allowed him the opportunity to travel both the country and the world-experiences he never took for granted. Yet, Michigan was always his true home. It was there he met his beloved wife, Alice, with whom he shared 70 wonderful years. Together, they proudly raised eight children. Over time their family grew to include many grandchildren and great grandchildren. His greatest legacy is the loving family he built and nurtured which is a lasting reflection of his values and devotion.
As we bid farewell to Anthony Balavitch, his stories, jokes, laughter, and love will live on with his family and friends. He was surrounded by love in his life and in his final moments, and we know that he will continue to look over us all from Heaven.
