Anthony "Guyea" Barela

Anthony "Guyea" Barela was born in Gardner, Colorado to Julia Barela and Edward Castillo on December 1, 1948. He was raised by his grandmother, Maria Ninfa Barela and lived in the Gardner and Walsenburg area most of his life. He passed away on January 9th, 2026, in Pueblo West with his daughter by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was well known in the community as a skilled concrete finisher and completed many jobs in Walsenburg and the surrounding area. He liked working on cars and was always there to help his family and friends with their repairs. He loved riding his Harley and created memories with friends from all over. He was a Raiders fan and enjoyed sharing that fact with every Bronco fan he met. He will be sorely missed by so many.

He is preceded in death by his parents Julia Barela and Edward Castillo, his grandparents Ninfa and Tobias Barela, and by his uncle's Horace, Ted, Eloy, and Tobias Barela.

He is survived by his beloved daughter Peggy Barela; his son Jeffrey Barela; his ex-wife Rosemarie Martinez; his special cousins the Espinoza Family from Walsenburg; his friend Ron Vigil and numerous other family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Services will be held Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Church in Gardner, Colorado. Viewing is at 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. Rosary, 10:30Mass, 11:30 burial at the Gardner Catholic Cemetery. A reception will follow at 1 p.m. at the Raymond Aguirre Community Center in Gardner.
