William Gerald "Jerry" Shrout

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Jerry Shrout who left this world to

"Meet the Lord" on January 13, 2026, on LaVeta Pass, Colorado. Jerry was a beloved

son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Born: June 30, 1948 (age 77), La Veta Pass, Costilla County, Colorado (St. Mary's

Corwin)

Preceded in death by the love of this life Janna Ray Shrout, Parents William Edward

and Virgie May Shrout, Brothers Edward Owen and David Russell Shrout, and

Grandson Jared William Erickson.

Survived by: Sisters Elsie G. (Cliff) Arnell, Virginia M. Peoples, Daughters: Elizabeth

Kay Shrout, Rebecca Karen Shrout, Step Children: Jimmy Dee (Chantal) Hoad,

Lynnetta (nee Hoad) (Ire) Erickson. Grand Children: Dalton, Emerson, Alora, Tristan

Mason, Adanna and David Gilkeson, Ashton Brandt, Dana (Jordan) Marks, Jimmy Jr.

Hoad, Jerrica (Erickson)Dome. Great Grandchildren: Jordan Jr. and Makena Marks,

and Brock and Laney Dome. Nephews: Rodell (Ginger), Shannon (Julia), Russell

(Hayla), Owen (Michelle) Shrout. Great nephews: Roycee, Tanner, Tucker, and Tayce

Shrout. Great nieces: Nicole Shrout, Candice Tippey, Amiah Shrout and many other

nephews and nieces.

Jerry was truly one of a kind-friendly, helpful and beloved by everyone he met. His

warm smile and kind spirit touched countless lives, and there was not a person who

crossed his path that did not come away feeling better for having known him. The world

was a better place with Jerry in it, and his absence leaves a lasting void.

A proud graduate of LaVeta High School (1966), Jerry devoted four years of his life

serving in the United States Air Force. After his service, he studied mechanics and

eventually settled near Fowler, Colorado. He met and married the love of his life, Janna,

and together they returned to the LaVeta area. Jerry's career was marked by dedication

and hard work-first as chief mechanic and truck driver at Shrout Transfer, where he

eventually became owner; then at LaVeta Propane; and later as an operator at a gas

compression plant in Oakdale, Colorado. In his later years, Jerry fulfilled a lifelong

dream by running a sawmill with his nephew Roddy in his treasured homeplace on

LaVeta Pass.

An avid golfer, hunter, Denver Broncos fan, and devoted family man, Jerry cherished

mornings spent sharing coffee with Janna, as well as time spent with friends and loved

ones. Jerry and Janna spent their final years in the home they lovingly built on the

family property on LaVeta Pass, where he grew up-a home filled with love, memories,

and his indelible spirit.
