Wanda Jean Shrout

Wanda Jean Shrout, 77, of Purgitsville, WV, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

Born on November 22, 1948, in Purgitsville, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Scott and Myrtle Virginia (Rinker) Shoemaker. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Rev. Larry E. Shrout on July 3, 2017 and four brothers, Kenneth, Ernest, Loren, and Lloyd Shoemaker.

Wanda was a proud graduate of Keyser High School, Class of 1966. She made her mark early in life through her dedication to her work. She was formerly employed with Pilgrim's Pride in Moorefield, WV, and most recently continued to serve her community through her work at the Burlington Cafe.

However, her dedication did not stop at her professional life. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Rev. Larry E. Shrout. and as a pastor's wife, she served alongside her husband in their ministry with the Church of God. Her sacrificial life was a testament to her dedication and commitment to their congregation and the community. Her life was a living example of the scripture, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive' (Acts 20:35). She was a cherished member of the Paw Paw Church of God, where she left an indelible impact on everyone she met.

Her enduring spirit lives on through her son, Matt Shrout of Purgitsville, and her four grandchildren, Summer, Skyla, Josiah, and Gabriel Shrout. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph R. Halterman of Unionville, VA.

Wanda's legacy extends far beyond her family and career. Her selfless acts, her unwavering faith, and her dedication to her community are just a few of the qualities that will be remembered by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date, with times to be announced. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received during this difficult time.
