Anthony "Tony" Beneri, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, in Florida. Born on October 27, 1946, in New York, Tony's infectious laughter and friendly demeanor brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a man who took great pride in his appearance, his family, and his work, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be fondly remembered.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Karen, his devoted children, Deidre and Anthony, and their spouses Carl and Nadia. His grandchildren, Keira, Ella, Taegan, and Ray, will miss their grandfather's funny stories, warmth of his smile, and the sounds of him whistling.
After a distinguished career as a New York City Police Officer, Tony retired to Florida, where his days were filled with the simple pleasures he loved most. Enjoying his Dunkin Donuts coffee, he could often be found sitting out front of his home, taking in the view of the water and talking with friends and neighbors who would often stop by (and feeding the squirrels who also visited!) His meticulous nature was reflected in tasks such as washing his car, and ironing. Tony's cars were always spotless and he took immense pride in his appearance, never having a wrinkle in his clothes.
Tony's sense of humor was one of his most memorable traits. He had a natural ability to make people laugh, whether with a clever joke or a playful tease. His laughter was infectious, and his presence at gatherings was always a highlight, always making a late but grand entrance. Tony was also known for his beautiful penmanship, a skill that he took great pride in and that added a personal touch to the notes and letters he penned to those he cared for.
Tony's love for baseball was unparalleled, and he was an avid fan of the New York Mets. Tony's friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community and beyond. His involvement in various associations and his work with the PAL demonstrated his commitment to service and to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
In remembering Tony, one cannot help but smile at the joyful memories and the laughter he shared. Tony's journey through life was marked by the bonds he forged and the lives he touched. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the laughter he inspired.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Tony's honor at a later date.
Tony Beneri's legacy is one of laughter, love, and an unwavering commitment to the people and values that mattered most to him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
