Anthony O. Callender

Anthony Callender, widely known as "Ski," passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, in the company of family and friends. He was born on January 17, 1969, in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of the late Calvin Andrew Atherton and Marion Gibbs.

Anthony spent his early childhood in Trinidad before transitioning to Hartford, where he remained into adulthood and attended Hartford Public Schools. He often fondly shared stories of going to the "shop" in Trinidad to buy his favorite snacks, memories he recounted with pride and nostalgia. Although he did not return to Trinidad in his adult years, he remained connected to his roots and especially enjoyed feasting on traditional cultural meals during special celebrations at his mother's and aunt's homes.

Anthony had a sharp mind and a natural business mentality, using his wit and sales skills to become an entrepreneur at a young age. He followed in the footsteps of his father, who owned several businesses in Trinidad and Tobago.

Anthony is survived by his stepfather, Ronald Gibbs; five children, Shadiyah Porter, Antonio Likely, Anthonie Arnold, Antwan Likely, and Jennifer Gunn; seven grandchildren, Tsajelia Porter-Green, Avion Arnold, Azaria Arnold, Ozion Likely, Alice Likely, Quadir Likely, and Jennalise Gunn; his sister, Chrystal Gibbs; his brother, Kwame Gibbs; nieces, Maiyah Benjamin-Gibbs and Kairi Gibbs; his aunt, Peggy Nelson; as well as cousins, Patrice Callender and Michael Callander.

Anthony enjoyed researching conspiracy theories and keeping up with football, with his favorite team being the Pittsburgh Steelers. He cherished quality time with his grandchildren and enjoyed visits with his niece. He was known for his unique sense of humor, his love for food, and his fascination with telling the future and sharing spooky stories. His wisdom will be deeply missed, and he will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
