Anthony J. Cavataio, age 83-died on Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home in Falls Church, Virginia due to complications connected with Muscular Parkinson's disease.

Tony was born March 7, 1942, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Anthony C. and Lillian M.

(Corpora) Cavataio. Tony attended Saints Peter and Paul Grade School in Rockford, Illinois, and attended St. Thomas High School in Rockford. He then graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin in 1960. Tony obtained his Bachelor Degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, his Masters Degree in Sociology from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. In addition, he obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology from George Washington University. He taught classes at the University of Maryland and the Pentagon.

He was employed by the US Dept of HEW (later Dept of Education) for more than 25 years prior to his retirement in 2011. Tony had a passion for learning and helping others. He visited Indian reservations, helped victims in natural disasters, and worked on the merging the grant process for various agencies.

He married Beverley Seman on May 14, 2005, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA. Tony was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was committed to his faith and his family, generous in the sharing of his time and resources. He loved participating in the activities of his extended Cavataio, Corpora and Ingrassia family, and he could always be counted on to video and photograph family events.

He was an avid runner and participated in over 40 marathons throughout the country. He never participated in the prominent marathons as he only did it for the love of the sport. In addition, he went to Mount Everest for two weeks program achieving the 21,000 ft level. He was an exceptional snow skier, played tennis and golf.

Tony was a world traveler, including trips to Europe, Asia, South America, South Africa, and Australia and New Zealand. He enjoyed the arts and social events and was a member of the Washington Opera Society, Black Tie Club, Inc. and enjoyed season tickets at Kennedy Center.

Tony is survived by his beloved wife, Beverley of Falls Church, Virginia, his brother Michael (Barbara) of West Palm, Florida, and his sister, Lucy Sheata of Rockford, Illinois, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3305 Glen Carlyn Road

Falls Church, Virginia at 10:30 am on December 4, 2025. Following the Mass everyone is invited to the Everly Funeral Home at 6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA for tributes and a luncheon.

A memorial service will be held in Rockford, Illinois where the burial of cremated remains at a time to be determined. In addition, there will be a Celebration of His Life in Virginia in the spring of 2026.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tony's memory to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3305 Glen Carlyn Road, Falls Church , VA 22041.
