Born on May 2, 1953 in Philadelphia to Anthony Cetrone and Elizabeth Rieker Cetrone, Tony graduated from Boston College and then Jefferson Medical School. He moved to the Hampton Roads area for residency in 1979 and dedicated more than 45 years of service to the community. As President of NowCare Physicians and Chief Medical Officer of Bayview Physicians Group, his contributions to the field of healthcare will be felt for generations to come. His devotion to urgent care and occupational medicine, with a particular focus on the health and wellness of local first responders, created a lasting legacy that has served countless lives. He was recently most proud of his work promoting early cancer screening for firefighters, and he was honored by both the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach fire departments, in addition to being named a Health Care Hero of Hampton Roads. Additionally, he served his community as a member of the board for ForKids, president of the board of The WIlliams School, and president of the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation Board.
Above all else, though, Tony cherished time with his family and friends. Whether it was hiking in the mountains of Wintergreen, rooting on Boston sports teams, playing golf, or taking quick dips in the ocean, he always knew it was "not what you do, but who you do it with." He is survived by his wife, Monica, and children: Jenna (Jeff), Maggie (Jeff), Emily (Nathan), Tony, and Maria.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at H.D. Oliver Funeral Home in Norfolk, VA. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Tony's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, at Greenbrier Country Club in Chesapeake, VA, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to UVA Cancer Center's LGL Leukemia Program, ForKids, or a charity of your choice in his memory.
Though Tony is no longer with us, his love and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him. His legacy is one of love, humor, and unwavering devotion, and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Rest well, Tony. You will always be in our hearts.

Dr. Cetrone always had a kind word to say, stopped by to see how I was doing, took time to see what was going on in my life and was always there to answer any questions I had. He was a great man and will be missed very much. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.

Dr. Cetrone was our physician for Norfolk Fire Rescue at Nowcare. He was extremely helpful to me when I had a medical problem some ten years ago. He was genuinely concerned about what was happening and was able to get me to the right doctors to solve my problem. He always took the time to talk about just normal everyday things and would even stop to say hello and ask how I was even when I was in for routine checkups.
I am so sorry for your loss and now the loss of a man I knew not only as our doctor but as a good friend.

Tony has been my medical director in Occupational Health for the past twenty-five years. He was an inspiring mentor and always a fountain of knowledge. Tony also had a keen intellectual humility, which always made him curious. This made him very open to change and innovation, so critical in healthcare.
Tony led the Occupational Health department at Children's Hospital of The Kings Daughters. Overseeing many challenges to healthcare workers (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic response), he treated each new situation with calmness and a determination to solve it.
I am incredibly lucky to have worked with him it was a pleasure to watch how he treated employees with empathy, expertise, and professionalism.
My sincere condolences to Monica and all of Tony's children.

I met Tony in 1981 during my surgical rotation at the VA in Hampton. The medical director at the time did NOT have interns in surgery so the medical student became the intern (no pressure). Tony (second year resident in surgery) and I would start rounds on the ward/floor at 6 am starting on opposite sides of the chart rack and meet in the middle. Then surgery from 8 am till done and then end of day rounds. Drive home from the VA hospital taking naps at stoplights counting on the cars behind me beeping their horns when the light turned green to wake me up. Study at home, on call every 3rd night, LOTS of coffee. One day during a break in surgery, went to the surgeon's lounge to have more coffee (so thick the spoon would stand up but needed the caffeine) and vomited up blood. Tony wanted to scope me right there, but Dr Barber (medical director at the VA) had me admitted to NGH. I drove myself to NGH ED but Tony followed me to make sure I made it. So after being hospitalized for the only time in my life for an upper GI bleed due to the stress of a demanding surgical rotation, bad coffee from the VA (veteran's hospital in Hampton), Tony and I somehow became friends. I thank my lucky stars for everything that happened then that brought Tony into my life.
I miss him.

I am sorry for your loss....I had the good fortune of being a resident at EVMS while Tony was there and remember that he always maintained his calm demeanor no matter how much chaos there was..... I´m sure he will be greatly missed by his family and patients... I hike the trails at Wintergreen and will say a special prayer for Tony the next time I´m there....Brad Carmines

I was truly blessed to have worked with Dr. Cetrone since becoming a nurse. He was always available to provide guidance and education. I would start a conversation with one question and I would leave knowing the answer to five more questions I never had to ask. His kind words and taking the time to educate encouraged me to be the best I could be, just because I didn´t want to let him down. He will be greatly missed by many. He was a wonderful person and exceptional Occ Doc. My heart goes out to his family, praying for you all.

I had the privilege of working with Tony as a fellow Board Member of the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation. We were very fortunate to have Tony lead the Foundation for several years and was simply a wonderful human being. I will always cherish his phone call after he gave my son his physical when he was applying to the Police Academy in Henrico. He told me that Cheryl and I should be very proud as we raised a very good man. He always had a smile and a kind word for you but on the golf course, he wanted to beat you into submission! Tony gave his all to every organization of which he elected to serve. I am grateful our paths crossed.
